Electrix Renewable recently partnered with Unicorn Construction on an exciting new build project in the beautiful coastal village of Shaldon, Devon. This high-specification home was designed with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind, and our team worked closely with the developer and client to deliver a comprehensive renewable energy solution that makes the most of the property’s potential.
What We Did
Solar Installation
To maximise the home’s energy efficiency, we installed nearly 8kWh of solar panels across two south-facing roof aspects. By using an in-roof panel system, we integrated the solar array seamlessly into the roof design, maintaining the property’s sleek and modern appearance while optimising energy generation.
Three-Phase Electrical System
The house features a three-phase electrical installation, ensuring the property can handle high energy loads efficiently. This future-proofs the home for additional energy demands, such as EV charging and other high-powered appliances.
EV Charging Point
We installed a 22kWh electric vehicle charging point, allowing the homeowner to charge their vehicle quickly and efficiently. This feature not only supports the homeowner’s commitment to sustainability but also adds long-term convenience and value to the property.
Smart Hot Water Control
A smart hot water control system was added, enabling the homeowner to divert surplus solar energy to heat their water. This feature ensures no energy goes to waste, reducing reliance on grid electricity and further lowering energy bills.
Challenges & Solutions
The primary challenge for this project was ensuring we maximised the energy output while working within the constraints of the available roof space. By carefully designing the system to take full advantage of the south-facing aspects and using in-roof panels, we delivered a highly efficient solar solution that meets the client’s energy needs without compromising the property’s aesthetics.

This new build in Shaldon is now a shining example of how modern homes can combine cutting-edge design with renewable energy solutions.
