Why Now is the Best Time to Switch to Renewable Energy
March 1, 2025At Electrix Renewable, we are proud to be an official partner of Build Torbay – an initiative that reflects our long-standing commitment to investing in local people, skills, and the future of construction in our community.
Launched in 2021 and funded by Torbay Council’s Towns Fund, Build Torbay aims to inspire a future workforce, support career development in construction, and ensure local residents benefit from the regeneration projects taking place across Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham.
As a business with over 30 years of experience in the electrical contracting industry, we know first-hand the value of creating clear pathways into construction. From apprenticeships to advanced technical roles, our industry offers a wide range of rewarding careers – and we’re proud to help open those doors for more people in our area.
What Is Build Torbay?
Build Torbay was created to ensure that the significant investment into Torbay’s regeneration leaves a lasting legacy for the people who live and work here. With over £21.9 million being invested into major regeneration projects, there is a growing need for skilled local workers to help deliver them.
Working in partnership with businesses like ours, local training providers, and employment support services, Build Torbay is connecting residents to real opportunities in construction – from entry-level roles to highly skilled trades and technical jobs.
Why Electrix Renewable Supports Build Torbay
Construction is more than just building projects – it’s about creating places for people to live, work and thrive. At Electrix Renewable, we believe in supporting those who want to build a career in the industry and make a difference in their own communities.
As a Build Torbay partner, we are committed to:
- Supporting training and development for young people and career changers
- Offering insight into careers in electrical contracting and renewable energy
- Creating opportunities for apprenticeships and hands-on experience
- Promoting the role of sustainable construction and low-carbon technology
Many members of our current team began their careers through apprenticeships or retraining, and we continue to grow by investing in the next generation of skilled professionals.
Meeting the Region’s Skills Needs
Build Torbay is helping to address some major challenges in the construction sector. According to the CITB Construction Skills Network, the South West will need over 42,000 new construction workers by 2026. In Torbay alone, the construction workforce will need to triple in size to meet the demand created by local regeneration.
At the same time, the UK’s journey towards net zero by 2050 will require around 350,000 new workers in sustainable construction roles. This includes specialists in solar energy, battery storage, low-energy systems, and smart technology – areas where Electrix is already actively working and training.
By supporting Build Torbay, we are helping to build the skilled, forward-thinking workforce that will deliver this transition.
Building the Future Together
We’re excited to be working alongside Build Torbay and its partners to support a stronger, greener, and more skilled construction sector in our region.
Whether we’re installing solar panels on new homes, rewiring community buildings, or mentoring new apprentices, we’re contributing to something bigger – the development of a vibrant, sustainable local economy.
