When is the Best Time to Plan Your Solar Panel Installation?
January 20, 2026When a homeowner in Torquay started looking at ways to reduce her energy bills and future-proof her home, solar power quickly rose to the top of the list. Living in a four-bedroom detached family home, her electricity usage was naturally higher than average, particularly with busy family life, home working and rising energy costs.
After an initial conversation with our team, it became clear that a combined solar and battery storage system would give her the best long-term results, allowing her to generate her own electricity during the day and store excess energy for use in the evenings.
Designing the Right System
Every home is different, so rather than offering an off-the-shelf solution, we designed a system tailored to how the household actually uses energy.
The final installation included:
- 5kW of solar PV installed on the roof to capture daytime generation
- 10kWh of battery storage, allowing surplus energy to be stored and used later
- Smart controls to manage energy flow automatically
This setup provides a strong balance between generation and storage, ensuring the home can rely far less on grid electricity, especially during peak-rate hours.
Making It Affordable
One of the biggest concerns for many homeowners is the upfront cost of installing solar and battery storage. In this case, the customer was able to take advantage of a credit card interest-free offer available at the time.
By paying for the system on her credit card and spreading the cost with zero interest, she was able to move ahead without needing specialist finance. It meant she could start benefiting from lower energy bills immediately, while managing the cost in a way that suited her circumstances.
It’s a great example of how flexible payment options can make renewable energy accessible to more households.
The Installation Process
The installation itself was straightforward and completed with minimal disruption to the household. Our team handled everything from system design and installation through to commissioning and handover.
Once installed, we walked the homeowner through how the system works, explaining how the solar panels generate electricity, how the battery stores excess energy, and how the system automatically decides when to use stored power or draw from the grid.
The Result
The new solar and battery system has given the household:
- Greater control over energy use
- Reduced reliance on the grid
- Lower electricity bills
- Confidence against future energy price rises
With battery storage in place, the family can use more of the electricity they generate themselves, rather than exporting it, which is particularly valuable during the evening when demand is highest.
Thinking About Solar for Your Home?
This Torquay project shows that solar and battery storage isn’t just for new builds or large properties. With the right design and a sensible approach to payment, it can be a practical and rewarding investment for family homes of all sizes.
